Expungements can be expensive. Many people ask for more details about the costs, so we want to help you understand the basis for the costs and the payment plan options that may be available. How are the actual costs broken down?
The total costs are as follows:
- Legal fees to our office for professional services rendered. These fees vary based on a variety of factors. However, expect to plan on spending at least $1000.00 plus the outside costs discussed below on your expungement. Keep in mind that we offer payment plans and those are explained in these FAQs. To be legally eligible for expungement, you must first pay all outstanding fines, fees, court costs, and restitution in full before your petition(s) can be filed.
- A $157 filing fee is assessed by the Clerk of Courts of each county where a petition is filed. (This does not apply if the petition only contains non-conviction cases.)
- $15 fee for Identi-Go background check fingerprinting (required by Indiana State Police to conduct the required background check.)
- $22 fee for Indiana State Police background check report (required to be attached to each petition as an exhibit.)
- Any unpaid fines, fees, court costs, and restitution.
